A performance creative agency should connect product truth, testable messages and an explicit learning loop. A polished reel shows craft. It does not show whether the agency can identify your buyer's objection, design a useful test or respond to poor activation.
SaaS advertising often has to explain an intangible workflow in a short time. Attractive editing cannot compensate for a promise that the product fails to deliver. Start by evaluating how the agency understands the product and the action a prospective user should take.
Ask for hypotheses, not just ideas
Give the agency your positioning, target users, customer questions and current funnel context. Ask it to propose distinct message hypotheses. One might emphasize a painful manual task, another a concrete output, and another a credible answer to a switching objection.
A useful explanation states who each message is for, what it is expected to change and which observation would support or reject it. Those are planning hypotheses, not guaranteed uplifts. Be cautious when a partner prescribes a supposedly winning hook before reviewing the product or audience.
Distinguish concepts, variants and exports
An original concept, a new opening and an aspect-ratio export are different workloads. Ask how the proposed asset count is composed. More files do not necessarily mean more independent learning opportunities. If the package includes localization, specify whether it is translation, adaptation or a new market concept.
| Evaluation area | Ask to see | Weak substitute |
|---|---|---|
| Product understanding | Accurate workflow and buyer objection | Generic trend references |
| Creative strategy | Distinct test hypotheses | Large undifferentiated idea list |
| Production scope | Concepts, variations, formats and rights | Total export count alone |
| Learning | Data review and next decisions | Only a monthly delivery folder |
| Responsibility | Creative versus media ownership | Unclear performance accountability |
Read performance evidence in context
Request examples explaining the objective, platform, audience, spend context, measurement window and changes between tests. A screenshot of a favorable ad metric is not sufficient evidence that an agency caused the outcome. Ask whether results came from prospecting or retargeting and whether product or landing-page changes occurred simultaneously.
Distinguish attention metrics from qualified acquisition. A high click-through rate can come from a misleading promise. A low cost per signup can conceal irrelevant users. Reporting should connect creative response with activation or another agreed business event where those data are available.
Agree how production becomes iteration
Define who reviews results, how often they are reviewed and what inputs the client must provide. The agency needs a route from evidence to revised messages, not simply an obligation to produce the same number of assets each month. Specify whether reshoots, new concepts and derivative edits are included.
When testing, avoid changing every variable at once unless the purpose is a broader exploratory comparison. Where possible, hold relevant conditions comparable and interpret outcomes within platform-delivery limits. A small sample may be inconclusive; the report should not declare a universal winner from sparse data.
Separate creative fees from media and permissions
Photura's Performance Creative pricing is custom-scoped by volume, formats, production method, platforms, testing requirements and iteration cadence. Media management and media spend are separate purchases unless expressly combined in the approved agreement.
For creator-style assets, confirm paid-use rights, duration, markets, editing and any account authorization. The UGC cost guide explains production inputs, while the usage-rights guide covers permissions. An asset is not ready for testing merely because its edit is finished.
Buy a focused pilot with a decision attached
Scope enough distinct messages to explore a real question, with a review point and agreed next action. If the product story remains unclear, start with research and a narrow creative wave. If the traffic path is broken, fix that path instead of multiplying ads.
Photura's Launch & Creative connects production with performance variations. Add Distribution & Growth where media activation is needed. Choose a partner that can explain both what it will make and what your team should learn from using it.
