AI Startup PR Agency Costs: What Your Launch Scope Should Cover

Separate earned outreach, newswire distribution and paid placements, then scope the narrative, approvals and reporting behind an AI launch.

There is no single AI startup PR price because earned outreach, press-release distribution and paid media placements are different purchases. Compare their deliverables and conditions separately. A published press release is not the same as an independent journalist choosing to cover your company.

An AI announcement also needs a defensible story. A product launch, research finding, partnership or milestone should be described accurately and with approved evidence. Calling a feature revolutionary does not create news value, and a placement budget cannot replace a clear reason for the intended reader to care.

Separate the three media models

Earned outreach involves pitching relevant journalists and responding to their editorial process; coverage remains their decision. Newswire distribution disseminates an approved announcement through a selected network and package. Paid editorial or sponsored placement is a commercial opportunity with publication-specific terms.

Ask the provider to label each activity. If a proposal uses a retainer, request the ongoing work it buys and separate third-party costs. Do not compare a monthly outreach retainer with one release-distribution fee as if both promise the same result. Do not imply that paid placement is independent earned endorsement.

Use Photura's reference for the scope it actually describes

The Photura pricing reference describes press-release distribution at approximately USD 800–3,000 per release, depending on geography, package, outlets, industry targeting and other requirements. It is an indicative distribution reference, not a universal AI PR retainer.

For paid editorial and media opportunities, the same reference describes a broad range from several hundred US dollars to tens of thousands per placement. Publication, audience, format, timing and availability matter. All opportunities and final prices require client confirmation. A specific publication should not be assumed available simply because a price range exists.

Build an announcement that can be checked

Prepare the announcement, supported claims, product access, approved quotations and relevant assets. Separate what has launched from what is planned. If a feature is limited to certain plans or markets, say so. Assign an approver who can coordinate product, leadership and legal feedback.

For an AI product, avoid unsupported accuracy, speed or replacement claims. Provide a reproducible example where useful, with its conditions and limitations. A reporter or reader should be able to distinguish the real product capability from a carefully selected demonstration.

Define preparation, execution and publication responsibility

Specify whether the supplier writes the release, edits client copy, translates it, selects the package, coordinates placements or handles interviews. State review rounds, deadlines, embargo conditions and responsibility for late announcement changes. These inputs affect both cost and schedule.

If outreach is included, clarify target selection and what the report will contain. If a paid opportunity is included, approve the publisher, format, disclosure, live period and cancellation terms before booking. A placement commitment should be confirmed in the commercial agreement rather than implied by an indicative proposal.

Evaluate coverage without inflating the result

Distinguish original editorial stories from syndicated releases, sponsored pages and duplicate copies. Report relevant publishers, message accuracy, audience fit and qualified referred traffic where available. A large link count is not evidence of the same number of independent journalists covering the product.

Nor is paid publication a guaranteed SEO or AI-visibility outcome. Google's spam policies address links purchased for ranking manipulation and the qualification of paid links. Procurement should not require an unqualified ranking-passing link as a substitute for genuine media value.

Connect PR to the rest of the launch

Prepare a landing destination and supporting product materials before coverage goes live. Align publication timing with product access, the owned announcement and any creator demonstrations. Each channel should carry consistent facts without pretending every channel provides the same kind of endorsement.

Photura's PR & Media workstream can connect to launch assets and creator explanation. Start by deciding which media model serves the brief, then approve its scope, price and measurement. If AI citations are a secondary objective, use the GEO evaluation guide without treating placements as a citation guarantee.
